Memorial Day (May 26th for 2014) is one of the most meaningful holidays the United States has. Celebrated on the final Monday of the month of May every year, this important holiday has been set aside as a way for us to honor the men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. It’s been going on since shortly after the American Civil War, although back then it was called Decoration Day.
Sadly, many of us have been touched by the loss of a loved one who died while serving their country. It might be a parent, brother, sister, son, daughter, cousin, niece, nephew or some other relative. Or it may be a best friend or a long-time neighbor. On Memorial Day we make it a point to honor them and the sacrifice they made.
Over the years, though, Memorial Day has evolved into something more than a special time to remember our fallen men and women. Nowadays, it’s also regarded as the traditional beginning of the summer vacation season and a reason to gather family and friends for picnics, barbecues and other outdoor get-togethers. Backyards and parks throughout the country are the sites of Memorial Day gatherings whenever the weather cooperates.
But what can you do if you’re hosting a holiday gathering and it’s going to rain all day?
Well, obviously you’ll have to take it inside, out of the weather. But your home might not be big enough for everyone you’ve invited to be comfortable and relaxed while you’re celebrating. So what’s the solution? Plenty of Chicago restaurants are open during some or all of the traditional three-day Memorial Day holiday weekend, and you could have your gathering there.
Olivia’s Taste Polish Restaurant is closed on Mondays so it will be closed on Memorial Day itself. That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be the perfect place to celebrate the holiday on Saturday or Sunday, though. Because Olivia’s Taste is one of the best Polish restaurants Chicago has to offer, that’s especially true if you’re Polish-American or your family or friends have ties to the old country.
You see, Olivia’s Taste Polish Restaurant is one of the friendliest and most hospitable of all the Chicago restaurants you have to choose from. The atmosphere is relaxed and your group will never feel rushed through their meal. It’s a family-friendly place too, so you don’t need to worry about young kids seeing or hearing things they shouldn’t. Best of all, the food they serve is authentic Polish cuisine and it’s all delicious. Everyone in your group will be able to find dishes that they’ll surely love.
By all means, remember and honor our fallen warriors on Memorial Day. But sometime over the holiday weekend, invite your family and friends to a get-together at one of the finest Polish restaurants Chicago offers. You’ll be happy you did, especially if it rains.
