I am always looking out for ways to eat healthy and keep our active lifestyle but you know we have our weaknesses too. We sometimes go out and buy not-so-healthy foods like donuts or cookies but it is not really a regular things. We call them treats because we seldom have them. Okay, enough of being defensive of my ways lol. But anyway, I was skeptical to try this Organic Acai Extract but I have read so many good things about it so I said yes when I was approached and asked to review it.
As it turned out, I liked it! Acai berries is known for its antioxidants content and it is alsorich in fiber and heart-healthy fats. According to what I read onlune, acai may have more antioxidant content than other commonly eaten berries, such as cranberries, blueberries and strawberries. BUt I won't know how it does to my body unless I try them right? So here we go, here are some of the things I used the Acai Extract so far.
I made a pint of milkshake and almond the other day. I only added a teaspoon of acai extract just to try it and see how it tastes like. It did not really affect the taste of my milkshake so I was happy with that.
Here's an information about Acai from Nature Restore's Amazon page
The Acai berry is grown in the Amazon rainforest and has only been on the market for about 5 years. The berry has been around for thousands of years but it wasn't until the 1990s that it became popular to the western world. Acai is naturally full of energy, it has a strong berry taste with a little hint of chocolate. It is also high in proteins, fiber, Vitamin E, minerals and essential Omega oils.
Acai berry contains a higher concentration of compounds known as anthocyanins. These compounds are the ones thought to be responsible for giving red wine its widely reported health benefits. However, the Acai berry has 10 to 30 times more anthocyanins than red wine does. Acai contains high omega fatty acids, and studies have shown that high omega fatty acids can lead to lowering bad cholesterol levels (LDL) and maintaining natural HDL cholesterol levels. The antioxidant benefits of the Acai berry, combined with the fatty acids it contains, make this one of the most important superfoods on the market. You can use Nature Restore Acai by easily adding one or two teaspoons added to water, juice, smoothie etc. Another easy way to use the Acai powder is to sprinkle it on foods such as yogurt or cottage cheese. Then I made some churros for dessert and also put half a teaspopon of acai extract. I know churros is not very healthy because you have to fry it but I have never made churros before so it is a perfect time to experiment. Here is the recipe for my
Gluten-free Minibite Churros
Ingredients
- 2 cups water
- 5 tablespoons white sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 cup gluten-free flour
- 2 quarts oil for frying
- 1 cup white sugar, or to taste
- 1 teaspoon acai extract
- 2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup sugar
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, sugar, salt and tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Stir in flour and acai extract until mixture forms a ball.
- Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll drained churros in cinnamon and sugar mixture.
- Heat oil for frying in deep-fryer or deep skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Pipe strips (I used ziploc bag since I don't have a piping bag)of dough into hot oil using a pastry bag. Fry until golden; drain on paper towels.
The churros was a hit. I didn't think they would like it but theey did. My son is asking me to make it again.
Here's another yummy treat that I made with acai extract. I did not have bananas yesterday so I used the banana flavored popsicle and combined it with a glass of milk and a teaspoon of acai extract. It was a refreshing lunch break snack with some almond.
Here's another yummy treat, an energy shake with a bottle of boost, one banana, ice cubes, and a teaspoon of acai extract.
